LQ vs MS Team Previews

Lahore Qalandars

In the past, it would have been unthinkable for a team that included stars like Shaheen Shah Afridi, Rashid Khan, and Haris Rauf to lose games due to some subpar bowling. However, both of Lahore Qalandars’ losses have come in games in which the teams scored a lot of goals. A win here would help Qalandars’ chances of making the playoffs, which they haven’t done since the last few overs, even though they’ve lost their last two games.

The Qalandars are currently in third place on the points table, having won three of their five matches. In total, they’ve scored six points and have an impressive net run rate of 0.337. For the time being, a victory here will put them in second place, and that is what they will be aiming for.

Last time out, Lahore Qalandars batted first and racked up 204 runs off the Gladiators in their previous match. While the Qalandars lost a few quick wickets toward the end of the innings, Fakhar Zaman, Abdullah Shafique, and Harry Brook all played outstandingly, the team maintained its momentum. To their dismay, they were unable to hold on to that total as Quetta Gladiators put on an incredible batting display.

The Gladiators’ second innings performance was impressive, but the Qalandars’ bowlers were out of their depth. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Rashid Khan, and Haris Rauf all took a combined 120 runs in 12 overs for the Pakistan bowlers. The Qalandars were unable to control the ball and eventually lost the match because of the dew.

In terms of talent, the Qalandars have a strong team, but their on-field execution and strategy have been shaky at best. It’s only going to get more difficult for the Qalandars if they don’t get their act together soon enough. Mohammad Hafeez, Fakhar Zaman, Phil Salt, Rashid Khan, and David Wiese are all seasoned players who can turn the game around in the space of a few overs. Multan Sultans could be in for a shock if the Qalandars play their cards right.

Multan Sultans

With yet another win in the tournament, this time over PeshawarMultan Sultans improved their lead at the top of the standings with a victory over Peshawar Zalmi. They appear to be unbeatable so far in this edition of the tournament, based on their recent performance. Despite bowling second in more difficult dewy conditions, they did an outstanding job in their most recent match.

The opening stand of 98 runs between Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood against Peshawar Zalmi was a record-breaking effort for the duo. Tim David smashed 34 off 18 balls as he came in at No. 3 in a brilliant aggressive display. However, Peshawar Zalmi was unable to contend with their total of 182 runs, which they scored despite losing some steam toward the end of their innings.

The effort of their bowlers to hold a total of 182 on a surface that offered little to the bowler and had short boundaries was undoubtedly impressive. Two crucial wickets taken by Blessing Muzarabani at the start of the innings helped rock the Zalmis. Peshawar Zalmi were eventually bowled out for a total of 140 runs by the Sultans’ other bowlers, who kept up the pressure on the Zalmi batsmen.

Multan Sultans are currently top of the points table, having won six of their first seven matches. Only further evidence of how dominant the Sultans have been is their net run rate of 1.243.

Since their inception, Multan Sultans have been known for their flawless coordination between the top and middle order. Tim David, Shan Masood, and Mohammad Rizwan, among others, have been crucial to their success and will continue to be so in the future. Multan Sultans have one of the most evenly matched teams in the league, as evidenced by their position on the points table. All the Sultans have to do now is remain alert despite their strong record and impressive form. Getting past them will be a very difficult climb if they can do that and play to their potential.

Although both sides are well placed at the moment, this match may prove to be an important juncture in the context of the tournament. Lahore Qalandars are coming off a loss in their last match and will not want to lose another one here. The Sultans, on the other hand, will want to continue to build on the superb momentum they already have. Comparing the two sides on form, the Sultans are undoubtedly ahead by a big margin. On paper, however, there isn’t much to separate the two sides. The fact that the batting-friendly surfaces take a bit of sting off from the Qalandars’ attack makes Sultans a better placed side on paper. For that reason and the others stated above, betting on a Multan Sultans win should be the way to go here.
